Problems playing video content – Trouble shooting guide

Try the following options, one-by-one. If any one of these solves your problem, the remaining steps need not be executed.

  1. Make sure that your computer is connected to the internet. Make sure the connection speed setting is properly configured in Real Player or Windows Media Player. In Real Player, streams may appear to have poor quality if the connection speed is not set properly. You can set the connection speed in Real Player by going to "Tools" and then "Preferences." Click on Connection speed and select your connection speed from the "Bandwidth" drop down lists. For Windows Media Player, on the “Tools” menu, click “Options”. Click the “Performance” tab. In the “My connection” speed is box, click the appropriate setting. You may want to set this speed to match the speed of your Internet connection.
  2. Check whether the latest versions of Windows Media Player (for playing .wmv, .mpg files) or Real Player (for player .rm, .ram files) have been installed. The current versions of these software may be download from Microsoft    and Real respectively.
  3. Make sure that your computer is not behind a firewall. Firewalls must be configured to allow the media players to have two-way access to the Internet before audio or video can be played. Consult the manufacturer of your firewall software if you are unsure how to grant this access. If you are trying to play a .rm or .ram file, click here to learn how to configure Real Player 8 to work from behind a firewall.
  4. Try using a different browser (or another version of the same browser). This site has been tested and should work properly in the following browsers.
      1. Internet Explorer version 6.0+  (Windows)
      2. Safari version 1.2.2+  (Mac OSX)
      3. Firefox 1.0+ (all platforms)
      4. Mozilla 1.4+ (all platforms)
  5. Try the publisher’s troubleshooting guide for the Real Player or Windows Media Player.
